DEPRESSION


Depression, a common old age problem


Affects  mental,  social, physical  functions


It complicates treatment of chronic diseases


Personality changes, more agitated


Neglecting self care, feelings of hopelessness


Their personality changes


Agitated, lose temper, emotional outbursts


Isolated from friends meetings


Decline in self care


Pessimism begins to dominate in them


Human connection, autonomy and security


Emotional needs for elders


Aging robs cognitive abilities like recognition


Processing speed reduces


Memory and language declines


Emotional, financial, physical security need of the hour


Suppress negative thoughts


Believe good days are always waiting for you


Avoid brooding, improve social connection


Digressions like walking and enjoying nature does good


Have friends , share your concerns lessens your burden


Pleasing messages from them is a medicine to relieve depression


Pursue creative things like arts, be positive in attitude


Physical exercise improves mental health


Think of poet Shelley
