GREET THE NEW YEAR ,THE WAY THEY DO

Traditions round the world differ

The way they greet New Year

Americans sing “Auld lang syne” and eat black eyed peas for good luck

In Spain eat 12 grapes at the beginning of New year

Straight in to mouth, one after other signifying each month

And pass around  bottles of Cava

Columbians move around the block carrying empty suit case

They love every year to be a  pleasure filled travel year

People of Denmark throw old plates and glasses

Against friends doors, to cast off evil spirits

And they stand on chairs and jump off them together

To signify a jump into year of new hopes and new achievements

In Panama they burn effigies of TV characters and politicians

Signifying the evils of past year and purify the coming year

Scotland people carry fire ball on poles

Signifying Sun to purify the past

In Phillpphines  they  carry circular  coins and Symbols around

Symbolizing  prosperity that New year holds for them

In Brazil and central and South America they wear new underwear

On Newer eve, Red for love and yellow for prosperity

They ride seven waves on the sea, to have a life of plenty

In Greece, an onion is slung in front of main door on NEW YEAR EVE

The parents tap the head of children with onion to bring them good luck

In Estonia eat 7, 9 or 12 times meal on New year day

You do not have to empty the plate any way

In Japan ring the bell 108 times, to dispel negative emotions and mentality

In Ceylon, let the milk boil  in clay pot and spill over, signifying prosperity

Oh it is New yer, it is New year

Let it be rid  of ills and evils of  past year

Let it be peaceful and progressive year

For every one to cheer,Rich or poor

Cherished dreams come true year

Overall sound and healthy New Year for all
