HINDUISM YAMAS

Hinduism preaches Ahimsa or Non violence

Hurt never any one by thoughts, words or actions

No pain or injury to any creature

World would indeed prosper.

Ahimsa driving forces nine

Practice them one by one

Goal you will reach certain

If only train your mind every one.

Truthfulness you practice in life

Remember lie multiplies lie

Word and thought let it conform to facts

Sathyameva jayate, truth always wins

Astheya , never get into debts

Never other’s property covet

Never steal others possessions

For happiness a good lesson.

Brahmacharya you observe

With divinity in conduct serve

As a single be celibate

As married true and faithful to your spouse

Promote Kshama forgiveness in you

Patience a quality an asset for you

Always be in present

Past is past , make no time lost.

Let Dhriti , steadfastness and perseverance be the key

No fear or indecision rob the efforts of thee

Be after your goal with heart and soul

Success sure to smile , fruits of efforts, smile.

Develop in you quality of compassion

Suppress attitude of indifference

Dharma ,karuna, seva , bhava as duty

Essential qualities of a harmonious society.

Let Arjava honesty be a guiding force in you

Straight forwardness surely nice quality in you

Renounce deception and wrong doing

Qualify yourself as worthy human being.

Mitaahara, eat neither too little nor too much

Both to health are problematic as such

Be vegetarian in diet, avoiding meat

A practice of diet keeps you healthy indeed.

Let Shaucha, purity govern your life

Eliminate thoughts and actions impure all the while

Patanjali advocates Shaucha as first Niyama

Practice well the above said ten yamas

Allergens avoid, purifying air we breathe in

Water purifies the body

Truthfulness purifies mind

True knowledge cleans up intellect

Austerity purifies the soul perfect.

Contentment harbinger of peace

Live in present, acts pleasing you do

New of Yesterday turns old today, today’s new tomorrows old

Contentment is the key to behold.

Tapas or discipline is the rules you build up

Unwanted habits within you to wind up

Or promote wants in life with self- judgment

Negative thoughts eliminate in temperament.

Swadhya or self- study requires thrust

Experience is always teacher in life best

Learning a process of one or more life time

Move forward with lessons that would work out fine.

Ishwara pranidhana ,to god you surrender

Head below heart, symbol of surrender

Surrender to Nature and God so divine

PEEPAL TREE

PEEPAL TREE

Peepal tree grows very fast

Roots attached to trunk as pillar last

Trunks irregular shaped, low buttresses

Barks light grey, peel in patches

It is epiphytic growing on trees

A strangler with rope like roots, one sees

Grows in cracks on walls, cracking a lot

Resistant to drought and frost

Leaves smooth, shiny, leathery

Oval in shape, apex into tail lengthy

Base is over all heart shaped

Oxygen rich in morn due to thick foliage.

Flowers hidden in figs, green turning into purple

Between stalk of leaves and branches at an angle

Three colorless male stamen with opening at apex

Female flower with five petals, pistil enclosure

Round the year Peepal with fig fruits

Birds, bats, fond of the fruits

Seeds undigested into gutters and walls

Germinate and grow anywhere well.

Indus valley civilization from Mohenjo-Daro times

Hindus worshipped the tree, considered divine.

Symbol of happiness, longevity, good luck, prosperity

Vraksha rajaya namah, salutations to king of trees

Peepal tree, a home of Trinity, a Hindu belief

In Bhagavad Gita Krishna says, Asvathah sarvvi Krishnam

Meaning peepal tree His own image, says Krishna.

With Peepal fruit one realizes well

Fruit of tree like body enjoys and feels

Seed within, a silent observer of things.

Plants in Hanuman and Shani temples

Women circumbulate the tree thrice for blessings

Merit for progeny, sorrows redeemed, diseases cured

On Shravan Saturdays prayers observed.

Elliptical leaves, leathery glossy green

Leaf buds covered by two large scales seen

Young leaves seen in color red

Attractive to eyes nicely spread

Seeds dispersed from host tree

By fruit eating birds you see

Into cracks and crevices, germinates

Send roots to ground to terminate.

Aerial prop roots into thick woody trunks

With age not distinguishable from main trunk

Spreads laterally, covering large area on ground

Root structures unique in reproduction found.

It is so musical to ear you find.

In Bhagavad Gita Krishna speaks

One branch to another materialistic seek

Such one has no end for liberation

Leaves represent Vedas, seeking illuminating Sun.
